Estate Agency was so 2014!
It is no secret, especially to those in London that property last year was selling like hot cakes. Estate Agents across the capital would have been thinking they were on a journey similar to that of Jordan Belfort, earning large commissions for relativity little work given the buoyancy of the market. In fact Estate Agency looked like a pretty good place to be.
Not So Rosy Anymore
Has that bubble burst as we start a new year? Credit Suisse have recently reduced their earnings forecast by 10% for Foxtons, claiming that 2015 was “not looking as rosy as last year” (Evening Standard). Does this mean trainee Estate Agents can give up the dream of driving a flash car, wearing a bespoke suit and simply be able to enjoy what London has to offer? Not at all.
We Want You
Recruitment is a professional sales industry that predicts big growth plans in 2015. Michael Page International, a good barometer of the industry “expects to increase headcount by 12% in 2015, according to chief executive Steve Ingham” (Recruiter). In order to facilitate this growth, recruitment agencies are looking for people with sales experience to take onto their training academies and Estate Agency comes very highly regarded. In fact the last trainee I placed with Estate Agency experience (3 years at Foxtons) was offered a £29k basic with commission. With typical commissions at 1/3 of what you bill, recruiters can earn a good, if not excellent salary pretty quickly with top billers earning a six figure salary within 2 to 3 years. Did I mention, recruiters don’t have to work weekends either!
