It’s been a great week. You’ve landed the deal you’ve been chasing for months, built a strong pipeline and had two candidates nail their first stage interviews. Time to do what recruiters do best (well second best… obviously recruiting comes first!) Let’s celebrate. Here are some of our favourite ideas for how to spend that hard-earned commission in London this weekend.

Ping-Pong Pre-Drinks

Nothing says you’ve smashed it more than smashing the trainees at ping-pong; after all, you’ve got a reputation to uphold. You can’t let the early achievers get ahead of themselves. There are some seriously cool table tennis bars around London that’ll bring out your competitive streak. Our favourite has to be Bounce near Old Street. With UV décor, great drinks and thumping music, this is the perfect venue to start the commission splurge. Table service? Yes please! Recruiters like you shouldn’t be expected to queue at the bar.

Rule Rating: 3.5/5. A great idea to start the night but best if you’re in a big group. Table service is a big plus and there’s a regular supply of balls. It gets seriously busy so make sure you pre-book.

Press for Champagne

This is a venue for the more refined consultants (or at least those looking to appear that way on Instagram). Any bar with a ‘press for champagne’ button is worth a visit in our books. Situated in Soho, Bob Bob Ricard is a luxury restaurant that radiates elegance. Just be sure to visit early in the evening, we know what consultants with big commission payments can get like.

Rule Rating: 3/5. A really special venue but it doesn’t come cheap. The other guests are usually a little high-brow so you’ve got to be on your best behaviour.

Head Through the Looking Glass

This is an absolute must for any Alice in Wonderland fan. From the outside Through the Looking Glass seems to be a simple yet stylish speakeasy cocktail bar. This is most definitely not the case. Head towards the mirror at the back and step through the secret passage to an Alice in Wonderland themed hideaway. Moody lighting, classically styled furniture and eccentric staff will greet you – often with a paddle slap on the backside.

We assure you though, this isn’t just another London gimmick with poor execution. If you’re a cocktail aficionado you won’t be disappointed. The menu’s based around Lewis Carrol’s book but it’s spot on. The Cheshire Cat is a spectacular but sinister drink which actually vaporises before your eyes while the tobacco liqueur in Farewell to Joe will leave you with a deep burning aftertaste.

Rule Rating: 4/5. The cocktails are both impressive and innovative. The décor does look a little shabby but it adds to the charm. If you’re not a fan of being spanked, avoid the Red Queen.

Ladies & Gentlemen, It’s Time for a Toilet Break

Okay so Kentish Town isn’t the first destination on everyone’s list but you won’t regret this little detour. After all everyone needs a toilet stop halfway through the night. Yes you guessed it, Ladies & Gentlemen is actually a converted loo. As we’re clearly too mature to make a pun about toilets, we’ll keep this short and just tell you it’s a great place to spend a penny!

Rule Rating: 4/5. This is a seriously cool and very quirky venue. There are a few drawbacks though. It’s a bit out the way and is very small inside. The cocktails are good but not insanely innovative. None of these really matter though. It’s a great concept, executed in a truly likeable nature. Very worthy of your hard-earned commission.

Visit the Vault

This is certainly a place to head if you’re looking to show off. Take a stroll into London’s oldest whiskey shop for a browse. Your friends will question you, they may think you’ve lost it. Head to the bookcase at the back and open up their world to one of the coolest and most secretive hideaways in London. Downstairs is a moody, bare and candlelit cocktail bar which just screams cool. We’re sure this will become one of your favourite drinking spots. The cocktails are out of this world too.

Rule Rating: 3.5/5. Great place to go to escape the crowds but not somewhere to tell too many people about. Once you visit, you’ll only want to tell those closest to you.

Choose Life

Any Trainspotting fans among you? It’s not widely known but there’s actually an immersive Trainspotting production happening in London right now. This has received rave reviews and is definitely not for the feint hearted. If you’re a fan of Danny Boyle’s classic, give this a try. It’s not the stereotypical Friday night entertainment – well at least we’d hope not!

Rule Rating: 4.5/5. Seriously impressive albeit a little bonkers.

Step the Commission Spending Up a Gear

It’s time to go hard or go home. Let’s face it, you wouldn’t be bringing home the bacon if you were a ‘go home’ kind of person. If you want something further afield, why not grab your passport and see where you end up? Whatever you decide on make sure you go and celebrate in style, you deserve it… And good luck with the hangover!
